Under the Mistletoe-Part 6

Part 6
December 5, 2010
Denver, Colorado-Micah’s Apartment
Rosalie awoke to the warmth of sun touching her face and a hand snaking down her side.
“Well, good morning beautiful.” Micah was on his side beside her, his head propped up with his hand looking down at his fiancé. His hand continued to graze and explore her body until Rosalie turned away from Micah.
“Micah not now. I don’t feel too well.” Rosalie was not in the mood for Micah’s usually exciting touch.
“You were pretty drunk last night when I picked you up.”
“I was not drunk, merely tipsy.”
“Whatever you say, babe.” Micah pulled her to him and took her mouth in a kiss, letting his hands wander some more. Rosalie pushed away from him and got out of bed.
“Why are you acting so weird, Rose? Like a damn cold fish if you ask me and that is nothing like you.”
“What are you talking about, Micah?!”
“You have just been so damn distant from me recently. What’s going on?”
Rose knew he was right and that scared her. She could not admit that to him, though.
“Nothing is going on. I need to get ready to head up to Boulder. I have a wedding to shoot this afternoon.” Rosalie walked out of the bedroom, ignoring Micah, and into the bathroom, ignoring the truth.

Rosalie was home editing photos from her last two weddings when a knock came at the door.
“Madeline!” Rosalie was glad to see her best friend. This past week had kept her mind busy but not busy enough. She needed someone to talk to.
“Hey! Hope I didn’t catch you at a bad time. I have the day off so I thought I would stop by.” Madeline was co-owner of the River Wild, Buena Vista’s best outdoor shop. Her husband, Max also owned the shop.
“Just editing some pics. Come on in!”
Soon enough they were settled in Rosalie’s living room, fresh coffee in hand.
“So, how’s Micah?” Madeline had always been one to get straight to the point.
“He’s okay. We had a fight the other day after the wedding. Well, it really wasn’t much of a fight. He thinks something is up.” Rosalie looked down into her coffee mug, seemingly searching for an answer within its dark depths.
“Well, is something ‘up’?” Madeline looked at Rosalie inquisitively, secretly knowing the answer to her own question.
“No.” Rosalie lied.
“Hmmm if you say so, Rose.” Madeline knew it would be best to change the subject. “So, are you two coming to your mother’s infamous Christmas party Friday night?”
“I’ll be there of course but Micah can’t make it. He’s going out of town on business.”
“Well that’s a shame. I ran into Tristan at the Merc on Monday and he said he was coming.” Rosalie suddenly seemed very interested in the change of topic but realized how obvious she was and her cheeks turned pink.
“You are so obvious, Rose! You two used to be inseparable. Comes to show that time doesn’t change that. Did something happen at the wedding?”
“Do I look guilty or something?” Rosalie could feel her face getting redder by the minute. What was with her and all this sudden blushing?
“Oh my god! Something did happen! You better tell me everything Rose!” Madeline set her coffee cup on the table and leaned into Rose’s direction, waiting patiently for her tale.
“Damn, I never could keep anything from you.”
“Exactly! Now, what happened?”
“Well, we, ahh, kissed…” Rosalie saw Madeline’s interest pique even more.
“You two should have never walked away from such a good thing, no matter how much it scared you.”
Rosalie pondered Madeline’s comment, too afraid to accept that what her friend said was right.
